VoodooJunkie : AIDS

Whilst it is a highly serious condition in the real world, AIDS is treated as a thing of mirth on the Veej. Much like French and JordansBaby, it has become a term that is used to mean something other than its real meaning (note: this is what irony actually is, I hope you're reading Alanis!).

Nowadays 'AIDS' is used on the VJ forums as a general term for being ill. A poster with a light cold might post "I have a bit of the old AIDS today", or a poster with a hangover might post "Jesus, that dodgy SPAR vodka has really given me some AIDS and I'm feeling it this morning!".

It is now generally acknowledged that the old school VJ poster "Phill" is the face of AIDS. In fact, he has an emoticon dedicated to this very association. By entering :aids: in any post you will get a picture of Phill's face like so: http://www.voodoojunkie.com/voodooboard/images/smiles/phill.gif

The below is incorrect - AIDS has been used as a word for minor illness on VJ since way before Parker and Stone got their filthy hands on it.

The origins of AIDS being used for comedic effect can be traced to the South Park episode entitled 'Jared has AIDS', where the local residents unveil a statue declaring that "AIDS is finally funny". It is more likely however that the use of AIDS in an ironic manner on VJ is more influenced by the "AIDS!" musical in the film 'Team America: World Police' (made by the South Park creators).

AIDS at work: It should be noted that when calling in sick to work, there are now three accepted illnesses that can be entered on your sick form: AIDS (naturally), "Brain-o-pain", and/or "Total Fucking Sickness". Last two are courtesy of Neil's VJ-friendly ex boss; Richard.
