A Perfect Circle - Mer Du Noms

OK, so it's got a dodgy French title. So it's got all the song titles in the inlay in alchemists code (I'm sorry to say I translated them all. I had too much time on my hands). But these things should never detract from the Album's real purpose; the inlay artwork. In Mer de Noms there is no shortage of artistic talent, with all the pictures nicely arranged with a song title each. So far this review may lead you to think that I don't like the music on this album. That would be wrong, but I've been avoiding the subject.

So, what is A Perfect Circle all about? They’re heavy, but mainly very slow. You CAN mosh to them (as I have proven at the mandrake, albeit on my own). But the main problem in reviewing them is that they don't fit into a genre, and they defy comparison. Think classical music but with electric guitars instead of violins. Think great lyrics, sung with skill and more than a little feeling. Percussion varied and talented enough to keep you interested. And a reeeeealy smooth baseline that ties the whole thing together. Also think very good. A few tracks with very tragic moods to them, and a few to make you twitch, although the style can seem a bit samey the first time you listen to it. A great chill-out album, full of emotion and packed with great tunes, this is definitely an acquired taste, but well worth acquiring.
