Type A Zombies - Zombification by Shamanic Curse
Zombies spawned by the insane necromancy magic of far off foreign lands have been known of, and indeed - encountered frequently - since 1929, with the publication of William B. Seabrook's The Magic Island. In this book, Seabrook recounts his experiences on Haiti, including the walking dead. He describes the first 'zombie' he came across in this way:
'"The eyes were the worst. It was not my imagination. They were in truth like the eyes of a dead man, not blind, but staring, unfocused, unseeing. The whole face, for that matter, was bad enough. It was vacant, as if there was nothing behind it. It seemed not only expressionless, but incapable of expression."'
However, unlike more frequent categories of zombie, Haitian zombies don't begin their mindless and drooling quest for brains as dead people. Generally, they are normal people who become zombified by voodoo witchdoctors, or "bokors", by magical means, killing the victim and enslaving their body. The Type A Zombies are forever doomed to miserable toil working at their zombie master's bidding, unable to remember their past or loved ones. And feeding only on human brains.
